the TALK about Mental Illness

To be honest, who doesn’t feel tired of all the bad perception or view of mental illness?

We all wish we could tell them or at least if they’re willing to be educated, we wanted to sit with them and let them know about it. The frustration is REAL. The struggle is REAL.

But here are some things you could do whenever you face negative talk about mental illness:

Quick note: I quote these informations from a webinar with @safehaven.id

1. Note that you CAN’T CONVINCE EVERYONE
Humans are built different from each other; our minds obviously won’t have the same thought about certain topic. Accepting the situation that we can not always convince everyone about the piece of information we share will help us to not become stressed about it. REMEMBER, ACCEPTANCE IS THE KEY.

2. Share what you have (whenever you can)
Now… what did you do with piece of important information in your hand? SHARE IT!
If its helpful for the mental health community, why not?
If its helpful for others to broaden their horizon, why not?
Just share what you have! Even a tiny bit information could always help others to have a better understanding about mental illness.

3. Remember that it is a long process
Here is the bitter pill that we all need to swallow. Changing one’s mind need patience. Trust me it is a hard and long process, but we all NEED to get through it (if you feel frustrated, please remember you are not alone in this, sometimes we just need to accept the situations and keep pushing forward at the same time)

There will be one day where our generation do not need to explain anymore. What can we do today? Stay steady in our process of educating people about mental illness.

Thanks to Rismadhani Chaniago and Reggie Pranoto for sharing so much in webinar with @safehaven.id

Last note: Remember, you are not alone.

Thank you for reading!
